MINI Cooper S - The Sports Highlight of MINI

When BMW re-launched the MINI brand, it did so by introducing the MINI One, which was then followed by the MINI Cooper. For a good period of time, these two models carried the flag for the new brand and did a very good job in the process. Evolution is a natural progression of life and MINI decided that they needed something with a little more venom, power and speed. This was to be a risky decision as it would mean going in a direction that was totally opposite to the original Mini from the 1960’s. However, it needed to be done if the new batch of MINI cars were to continue to be successful. Step up the MINI Cooper S; a fast and sublime addition to the new and used MINI range, which offered exactly what was required; venom, power and speed. An upgraded variant of the MINI Cooper, the ‘S’ provided a bigger engine and more BHP that was designed to attract those that like a faster driving experience. In terms of the actual details, the new and used MINI Cooper S is offered in a 1.6 litre engine (4 cylinders / 16 valve) that provides 184 hp and has an acceleration rate (0 to 60 mph) of 7 seconds. The top speed of the vehicle is 142 mph. So straight away the improvements are obvious and so the Cooper S has become a more attractive option than the original used MINI Cooper standard version. It is by no means a top of the range sports car, but it certainly does a good job when delivering a sporty performance from, let’s face it, a Mini. Who would have thought 40 to 50 years ago that you would be able to buy a Mini that could achieve 0 to 60 mph in just 7 seconds and that the same vehicle could reach above 140 mph?!
